Oregon Gas Can Explosion – Federal Court – Burn Injury – Confidential settlement
Jonah Flynn represented a Coos County (Oregon) resident burned in a gas can explosion. At the time of the fire, the gas can manufacturer was in bankruptcy, so Jonah sued the world’s largest corporation—Wal-Mart, which in turn hired 10 lawyers from three national law firms to defend the case. With thorough investigation, Jonah uncovered evidence that Wal-Mart’s “industry expert” was himself developing a safer gas can that included safety devices consumer advocates had been pushing for. In the middle of the case, Wal-mart’s “team” of 10 lawyers were fired as a result of the information uncovered and exposed during a deposition Jonah took of the expert; the case was ultimately settled.
